Barnet’s innovative and inclusive community food growing project was awarded area committee funding to expand its offering in 2025. In 2024, a joint project between Barnet Council, Incredible Edible Barnet and other wonderful local growers saw the creation of 4 new community food growing sites across Barnet.
This year, the four sites offer drop-in sessions for any residents who wish to join as well as 8-week training for food growing leaders. This free training is for residents who already have a community food growing space (in a faith centre, a school or other space) and who want to learn more about how to set up and maintain a community food growing project. People not affiliated with any space but willing to be matched with an existing project are also welcome to join.
The goal of this project is to create a cohort of people who can set up community food growing projects in Barnet – we want more food growing in Barnet!
The project has been commended by Sustain and featured as a case study in the Good Food Local London 2025 report.
