As a first in a new series highlighting Barnet’s Food Heroes, our first hero is the amazing organisation:
Volunteers on Wheels
In the heart of Barnet, this remarkable organisation exemplifies community spirit and dedication. Volunteers on Wheels operates two vans to provide vital transportation services for various charitable initiatives within the area.
The organisation plays a vital and appreciated role by collecting surplus food from the Felix Project warehouse and delivering it to local food banks five days a week. This consistent effort ensures that food banks continue to receive a much-needed supply of food from surplus providers.
In fact, we can quantify the efforts of Volunteers on Wheels – in the first three months of 2026 they delivered 64,179kgs of food to Barnet food banks.
The true heroes behind this operation are the members of the small but dedicated team at Volunteers on Wheels. Their dedication, organisational skills and hands-on approach ensure that the food reaches its destination efficiently and reliably. Their work not only supports people in Barnet with food but also fosters a sense of community and compassion in the borough.
Volunteers on Wheels exemplifies how local initiatives can make a significant impact. By providing essential transportation support, they bridge the gap between surplus food and those who need it most. The efforts of Volunteers on Wheels serve as a reminder of the power of volunteerism and the importance of community-driven solutions in addressing social challenges.
